H&K, or Heckler and Koch, is a German firearms manufacturer concentrating on raw utility, and design excellence. Engineered to outperform, accept no compromises - H&K are truly exceptional in their field. From their iconic MK23, to its slimmed down USP little brother, to their G36, G3, HK416 and 417 platforms, they are prolific in setting trends. One of their most famous designs, the MP5, has been one of the most beloved guns of all time. But that's not all - H&K dominate the SMG space with their MP7, and UMP. All of their designs are instantly recognisable, and beloved by the tip of the spear. In service around the world, favoured by the elite of the elite for their robust performance and extreme reliability, it's no surprise that they're considered the number one firearms brand in the world.
Gas Blowback Rifles, or GBBR's, offer enhanced realism over their counterparts. As a general rule of thumb, they offer more realistic operation, with simulated recoil for every shot, powered by gas/Co2. This combination is sure to put a smile on your face, as with every pull of the trigger, the realistic reciprocation of the bolt thumps into you, making it more satisfying (and tempting to keep pulling that trigger). Unfortunately, what they improve upon with realism comes at a trade-off - they are not as practical as AEG's, as they have lower capacity magazines, and have to contend with cool down. In other words you will have to count your shots, and choose shots carefully to get the most out of your replica.
Another fantastic benefit of Gas Blowback Rifles is that they have more realistic disassembly (often referred to as "Takedown"), which further adds to the enjoyment of the piece.
GBBR's are closer to real steel guns in many ways, including the level of maintenance required. In order to keep them in tip top shape, you will need to regularly disassemble for cleaning and re-greasing, as well as ensuring everything is put back together properly. This may seem like a negative aspect, however it is where a lot of people get their enjoyment as you are more intricately familiar with your replica.
Green gas is one of the most common propellants used in airsoft. Although it is called gas, it's actually a liquid. When shooting, it uses the ambient heat to turn into a gas, which cools down the gun/magazine, causing it to cool down. As such, it gets less efficient as the pressure drops, and as the temperature decreases. That's why there are several pressures available, so you can compensate for colder conditions - when one gas type is not giving you the performance you need, you can move up to the next pressure.
Green gas is typically propane-based, however as it has a major advantage over propane...to quote Agent Smith, it's the smell! Or lack thereof. Anyone who has used propane, has had the displeasure of the awful aroma, which is absent from airsoft green gas.

The bigger, badder, more powerful MP5 - the official Heckler and Koch HK53 from Umarex is stunning. Constructed out of the highest quality materials, this GBBR (Gas Blowback Rifle) offers unprecedented realism, and a more unusual design to pique the interest of the most ardent collectors. Effectively, the HK53 is a 5.56 version of the G3 rifle, but closer in style and resemblence to the MP5. Growing out of the bigger "Carbine" HK33, the HK53 addressed the main size concerns with the rifle, resulting in a more compact, manoeuvrable, and adaptable gun.
You have the traditional MP5 J-Stock - collapsible/extendable, with multiple positions to suit different styles, as well as the triangular style handguard. The magazine is larger, accommodating more gas for superior performance. Constructed out of stamped steel, as well as superb quality plastic for the furniture. The bolt has been re-worked with a larger bore, heavy recoil buffer (paired with stronger recoil springs) improving realism through felt recoil, without affecting the cyclical rate (rate of fire).
One of the more practical features of the HK53 is the adjustable hop up, accessible through the handguard - the magazine does not need to be removed, so you can adjust on the fly, whilst shooting so that you get a good idea of the adjustments you're making.
