The sear spring is one of the most integral components of a 1911/Hicapa. It controls the trigger, safety, and hammer. Over time, the metal can weaken, or bend out of place. If your 1911's hammer is not staying back, or trigger works without the beaver tail being depressed, it may be time for a new sear spring.

Fitting this spring requires careful tuning - you remove the main hammer spring housing, and position the spring carefully. If the spring is bent in the process, you will need to tweak the prongs of the spring into the correct position (this requires several attempts, usually).
