In airsoft, the mainstay (and industry favourite) is the humble AEG. Battery powered replicas, offering superb value, and unmatched practicality. AEG stands for "Automatic Electric Gun", and it really is a case of "What it says on the Tin" - they have an internal gearbox, and motor, and when you pull the trigger the battery spins the motor, allowing the replica to fire. Granted, that doesn't sound terribly exciting, however in reality, it means every time you pull the trigger, your gun fires, and you can get an impressive rate of fire (more BB's down range faster).

Internally, most components of an AEG can be tweaked/upgraded, so you can tinker and customise your replica to suit how you play. Evolving from the venerable G3, the G36 series of assault rifles offers a smaller caliber, and a lighter weight platform, making it more manoeuvrable, adaptable, and versatile. It is an iconic design, instanlty recognisable in its silhouette. You have ambidextrous fire controls, side-folding stock, and ambidextrous AK-style magazine release (and ambidextrous bolt, although in airsoft, this is just for show).

Internally you have the same design of gearbox as the AK-series; Version 3 with motor cage. This makes it extremely reliable, and in a more modern profile than the AK-series.

Rotary hop up chambers are a variation of the basic design, and their primary benefit is that you have more granular (finer) conrtol over the amount of backspin applied to your BB. This is achieved by the depth of the hop up arm, and the rotary wheel offers greater control over this depth, so you can more accurately fine-tune your shots.
